• Captain Dhoni on fire in game versus Kolkata

    1

Looking at the Midas touch that went by the name of MS Dhoni, it is hard not to believe that he is having the time of his life. Only a week ago he had won the Indians the Cricket World Cup. Then, in the first game of the Indian Premier League, he pulled many rabbits out of the bag and won the Super Kings a game that many thought was going the way of Kolkata Knight Riders.

Kolkata would have considered themselves favourites after restricting the Super Kings to 153. Then, they would have backed themselves to win the game when the openers had more than done their job by getting to 64 in less than nine overs.

But then, the pitch became slower to bat on, the ball lost its shine and the spinners came on to bowl to make the task difficult. There were some strange moves as well from Kolkata, which meant that the Super Kings romped home despite a poor penultimate over from Suraj Randiv that went for 16 runs.

    Dhoni was on fire again.

  • Royal Challengers Bangalore’s selection is surprising

The reason why one finds the selection of Bangalore Royal Challengers side surprising is that while they have invested heavily in foreign players, they have not done a great job in getting the Indian players into their line-up.

For one, their captaincy decision was affected heavily by that. That is, with Virat Kohli being the only Indian player in the squad who can maintain his slot and show some captaincy material, it is only natural that the leadership had to go to someone from abroad.

Daniel Vettori is not a bad choice, just that having a foreign captain occupies one foreign slot out of the maximum allowed four. Plus Vettori has had his issues with his bad back and that could push him back a little in terms of captaincy.

Then again, for a foreigner to understand his team takes time and the tournament itself is going to last not more than one and a half month, by when, things could go dramatically wrong for the side.

For the rest, the time will tell whether it was a reason able decision.
